Ontario Teachers’ Announces Investment Leadership Appointments

Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board (Ontario Teachers’) has named new leaders to head its Capital Markets, Total Fund Management, and Global Investment Strategy departments, effective immediately.

Bernard Grzinic assumes the role of Executive Managing Director, Capital Markets, where he will oversee active risk-taking in credit and absolute return strategy asset classes. With over 25 years of experience at Ontario Teachers’, Bernard has held various senior roles, most recently overseeing credit investments. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder. Bernard will report to Gillian Brown, Chief Investment Officer, Public and Private Investments.

Steve Saldanha is appointed as Executive Managing Director, Total Fund Management. He will be responsible for guiding Ontario Teachers' overall asset mix, managing trading activities, and integrating portfolio construction with treasury and funding capabilities. Steve brings over 25 years of expertise to the role, including nearly two decades at Ontario Teachers’, across Total Fund Management and Capital Markets. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Economics from the University of Waterloo and a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Toronto. Steve will report to Stephen McLennan, Chief Investment Officer, Asset Allocation.

Robert Sturgeon has been named Senior Managing Director, Global Investment Strategy. In this capacity, he will oversee the assessment of the global business environment, develop strategic responses to emerging global themes, and foster strategic relationships for the Fund. Robert joined Ontario Teachers’ in 2017 and has since held progressively senior roles in Global Investment Strategy. Prior to this, he spent over 17 years investing in private markets globally. Robert holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Victoria and is a CFA Charterholder. He reports to Jonathan Hausman, Chief Strategy Officer.

These appointments come on the heels of recent promotions within Ontario Teachers' Executive Team, including Gillian Brown, Stephen McLennan, and Jonathan Hausman to new leadership roles.
